Bringing such devices to the market, Hyperice had gained a lot of interest from national-level athletes and players from the National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL). Hyperice observed that these players were also using compression-focused recovery devices by NormaTec. Realizing the combined “revolutionary” power that these two companies can bring to the health and fitness industry led to the 2020 acquisition of NormaTec by Hyperice.

The company uses a patented massage pattern that targets arms, legs, and hips through a device that uses air pressure to apply a scientifically backed range of pressures. The technology was originally developed with medical applications to help patients with lymphedema, non-healing wounds, venous ulcers, and other circulatory disorders. Today, Hyperice is broadening the scope of their focus beyond athletes to reach individuals who can use its devices for rehab and wellness purposes. To this end, Hyperice recently launched the Hyperice Human Health Division, which, as Jacobs says, is focused on non-invasive wellness solutions for the workplace, active and retired military, and forward-looking health providers. The Human Health division highlights the preventive, wellness, and rehabilitation benefits these recovery products provide. “We want to use all of our technologies to become a one-stop-shop for our customers’ wellbeing,” says Jacobs. Moreover, with the COVID-19 outbreak restricting outdoor activities and access to health facilities, the company’s devices help customers relieve body stiffness and muscle fatigue, at the comfort and safety of their homes.

Looking ahead, Hyperice is working on rolling out “wellness pods” that are intended for relaxation and rejuvenation, serving employees and athletes as a place to re-focus throughout the workday.
